This term seems to be flying by and we at The Priors School
are filling the time with many fun activities. Our school is
visiting the Royal Show this month as part of our Year of
Food and Farming. We are looking forward to this whole
school outing to Stoneleigh Agricultural Ground on the 2nd
July, where one of our pupils, Lucy Burton, will be
participating in the show jumping event.
We are also all taking part in a sponsored Readathon on June
20th as part of our link with the National Year
of Reading and Reading Connects. The money raised will go to
the Roald Dahl Foundation and CLIC House, a children’s
cancer charity. Thank you to all who are supporting their
children.
We have appointed a new Class 3 teacher, Wendy Hancock, who
has over 20 years teaching experience in local schools. Part
of the interview process was a teaching lesson, which the
children really enjoyed, and we look forward to welcoming
her into School in September.
Since the creation of our new Early Years Foundation Stage
Unit I am pleased to see Class 1 brimming with pupils. They
are getting so much more out of the new set up and we are
all proud to be leading the way in this new strategy.
Our Expressive Arts week will finish the summer term off
nicely and we shall have visitors throughout the week doing
art workshops, balloon making, puppet shows and needlework,
which I am sure the children will thoroughly enjoy. We thank
you all for your continued support.
Miss Isham Teacher in Charge
Class Three are continuing to work hard. As part of our
topic work on settlements, we have been researching the
geography and history of Priors Marston. Using maps, we have
made trips around our village, identifying and sketching
features of interest. So if you see us out and about, please
feel free to say hello! We are hoping to invite some
villagers to talk to the children about how Priors Marston
has changed over the years. If you are interested in sharing
your thoughts with us, please contact the school.
Our Key Stage 2 pupils recently participated in the Southam
District Athletics meeting at Southam College and their
efforts and determination were a credit both to themselves
and to the school. This has spurred us on to prepare for our
forthcoming school Sports Day on Tuesday 15th of
July, so please come along to cheer on the children!
The community lunch will also be on this day so please bring
a picnic and join us for tea and cakes as well a maypole
dance performance.
With the end of term in sight, our year 6 pupils are
preparing for their Leavers’ Assembly to be held in St.
Leonard’s Church on Friday 18th July at 10
a.m. We hope as many friends of the school as possible can
join us to wish our senior students well as they enter the
next phase of their education.
Best wishes from Class Three and Mrs. Ovens
We have decided to offer a limited number of 100% bursaries
for places in September. We recognise the need to generate
income, but also want a thriving school with small class
sizes and good social interaction. Contact Mrs McLoughlin,
Miss Isham or myself for further details.
Some terrific events have been held recently with a Wild
West night, a quiz night, a glorious summer luncheon thanks
to David & Jill Sutton and a live band in the village hall
most recently and have raised close to £15,000. Thank you to
all organisers, supporters and sponsors. This is a great
achievement but remember we need to raise £90,000 a year.
This brings The Priors Ball into focus. Saturday 4th
October at Gaydon is the date for your diary. Tickets are
the same price as last time at £75 if paid before end of
June or an extra £5 after then. We look forward to seeing as
many of you as possible there.
May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a great summer
whatever your plans.
